SideLink Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Digital Summit LLC (“Digital Summit,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in the SideLink app for iPhone (“SideLink”). SideLink has no account and no sign-in. Most of what you do in it stays on your device.
1. The short version
- Your notes, lists, trips, rules and timers are stored on your device, not on our servers.
- Your calendar, reminders and Apple Health sleep data are read on your device to show them to you. SideLink never sends them anywhere.
- To find recipes, workouts, store prices and driving routes, SideLink sends what that feature needs to the service that provides it. Section 4 lists each one.
- SideLink has no advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We do not sell or share your personal information.
2. Information stored on your device
Meeting notes, action items, trips and itinerary items, your shopping list, your chosen store, context rules, Split window layouts, cooking and workout progress, and your settings are saved in SideLink’s storage on your iPhone. We cannot see this information. It is included in your device backups according to your own iCloud or computer backup settings.
In SideLink, Settings › Privacy › Export my data gives you a copy of it, and Delete all SideLink data removes it from the device. Deleting the app also removes it.
3. Information SideLink reads with your permission
iOS asks for your permission before SideLink can use any of these, and you can change your choice at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
Calendar and Reminders
SideLink reads your events and reminders to show your day, your next meeting, tomorrow’s plan and travel events you can add to a trip. Access is read-only, and this information is not sent off your device.
Apple Health (sleep)
If you allow it, SideLink reads last night’s sleep from Apple Health and shows it on the Night screen. SideLink only reads sleep data and never writes to Apple Health. Health data is not sent off your device, is not stored on any server, is not used for advertising or marketing, and is not shared with anyone.
Location
If you allow it while you use the app, SideLink uses your current location to work out driving time and when to leave for the next item in your trip. Your location is sent to Apple Maps for that calculation (see section 4). SideLink does not use your location in the background and does not store a history of where you have been.
Notifications
Cooking and rest timers can notify you when they finish. These notifications are scheduled on your device. No push notification service is involved.
4. Services SideLink connects to
NTRLY recipe and workout services (operated by us)
When you search for a recipe or open a recipe or workout routine, SideLink sends the words you searched for and the recipe or routine you chose to our NTRLY service, which runs on Google Cloud in the United States. Recipe photos load from ntrlyapp.com, which we also operate. These requests carry no name, account or device identifier.
Kroger
If you use store prices in Shop, SideLink sends the ZIP code you type, the store you pick and the names of items on your shopping list directly from your device to Kroger’s product and store services. To do that, SideLink first gets a temporary access key from our server; that request contains no personal information. Kroger handles what it receives under the Kroger privacy policy.
Apple
Driving routes and times use Apple Maps, which receives your current location and the addresses in your itinerary. Directions open in the Maps app. Subscriptions to SideLink Pro are purchased and managed through the App Store; we never receive your payment details. Apple handles this information under the Apple Privacy Policy.
Links to other apps
Some buttons open another app: a meeting’s join link opens in the app that link belongs to, and SideLink can open Calendar, Clock, Maps and Music. SideLink does not see what you do in those apps.
5. Technical information on our servers
Every request to our NTRLY service arrives with your device’s IP address. We use the address and the times of recent requests only to limit how often one address can call the service, which protects it from abuse. Request times older than one minute are removed the next time the same address makes a request. Our cloud provider, Google Cloud, also keeps standard request logs that include IP addresses for up to 30 days, which we use only to keep the service running and secure.
6. What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or share your personal information for advertising.
- We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- SideLink contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting tools from other companies.
- We do not build a profile of you, and we do not use your information to train AI models.
7. Children
SideLink is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
8. Your choices and rights
You can turn off any permission in the iPhone Settings app, export or delete your SideLink data from Settings › Privacy in the app, or delete the app. Because SideLink has no account, there is no account to close. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you; the only such information is the technical data in section 5. To make a request or ask a question, email hello@digitalsummitlabs.com.
9. Security
All connections SideLink makes to our service, Kroger and Apple use encryption in transit (HTTPS). Information stored on your device is protected by your iPhone’s own security, including its passcode and data protection.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how SideLink handles information, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect, and we will describe significant changes in the app’s release notes.
